Children's and Youth Military-Patriotic Movement "Zhas Sarbaz"

To improve the military-patriotic education of servicemen and pre-conscription youth, the National Military-Patriotic Center of the Armed Forces was opened in Astana in 2015 by the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Elbasy, which became the coordinating body for the military-patriotic education of servicemen and pre-conscription youth.
In pursuance of Elbasy's instruction to strengthen military-patriotic education among students and youth, including through the creation of regional branches of the Republican Children's and Youth Military-Patriotic Public Movement "Zhas Sarbaz," the Ministry of Defense, together with other state bodies, established the Republican Public Association "Children's and Youth Military-Patriotic Movement "Zhas Sarbaz."
The charter of the "Zhas Sarbaz" movement was approved at the general meeting of founders and registered with the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan on November 14, 2018.
On November 30, 2018, Elbasy, during a visit to the National Military-Patriotic Center of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan and a meeting with young patriots, launched the further development of the military-patriotic movement and the creation of branches of the "Zhas Sarbaz" movement in the regions.
Currently, branches of the "Zhas Sarbaz" movement have opened in all regions of the country, as reported to Elbasy at the Youth Forum.
The movement's logo has been developed, the tailoring of young patriot uniforms and the production of image products have been organized, and the texts of the anthem and the solemn oath of pupils joining the ranks of the movement have been approved.
Thanks to the activities of the movement, the number of military-patriotic clubs has increased to 6198 this year, covering 179,224 children.
In pursuance of the instruction of the President of the country – the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, work is underway to create "SMART-SARBAZ" circles based on the "Zhas Sarbaz" movement.
To create opportunities for students to present their high academic achievements in the field of scientific and technical creativity, 95 "SMART-SARBAZ" circles have been established with the beginning of the new academic year in the military-patriotic clubs of the "Zhas Sarbaz" movement created at the Republican "Zhas Ulan" schools, as well as at technical colleges and specialized schools with a physics and mathematics focus.
The creation of "SMART-SARBAZ" circles has made it possible to develop common views and approaches to the military-patriotic education of youth through the development of scientific and technological progress, the training of specialists capable of creating their own technological solutions, and to teach the younger generation to "transform innovative ideas into virtual reality."
Memoranda of interaction and cooperation have been signed with the military-patriotic movement "Yunarmia" (Russian Federation) and the akims (governors) of Aktobe, West Kazakhstan, Zhambyl, Kyzylorda, and Karaganda regions, as well as the cities of Nur-Sultan, Almaty, and Shymkent.
Annual final and отчетные (reporting) forums, field meetings, and public hearings on military-patriotic education and educational-methodological gatherings are held.
Over the past two years, the "Zhas Sarbaz" movement, together with other state bodies and public organizations, has conducted about 1000 various events on military-patriotic education of youth at the national level, covering over 110,000 people.
The largest of all the events held is the annually conducted military-patriotic gathering "Aibyn." More than 2000 clubs, covering over 55,000 children, participate in district, city, and regional qualifying rounds, based on the results of which the best military-patriotic clubs are determined. Over the past three years, 3110 children have participated in the final stage of the "Aibyn" military-patriotic gathering.
In 2017, the gathering was held in an international format. The military-patriotic club of the "Yunarmia" movement of the Russian Federation and observers from the Republic of Uzbekistan participated in the gathering.
In 2018, military-patriotic clubs created under military units and institutions of the Armed Forces, as well as the Border Service and the National Guard of the Republic of Kazakhstan, participated in the military-patriotic gathering for the first time.
In 2019, the anniversary fifth military-patriotic gathering was attended by 646 participants from all regions of the country. During the gathering, ideological work was carried out to educate youth in the spirit of Kazakh patriotism, to form high patriotic feelings and moral qualities of a citizen of the country ready to defend the Fatherland in the younger generation. Competitions in military-applied sports and combat training subjects, a military-field tactical game, an exhibition of military equipment, models of airplanes, ships, and military equipment made by military-patriotic clubs, exhibits of search teams, the "IQKazaqstan," "Aibyn Daryny," "Aibyn Dauysy," and "My Robot" contests, the "Aibyn Zhalyny" campfire evening, and cultural and leisure events were held.
The opening of the Military-Patriotic Gathering was attended by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Tokayev K.K., heads of central state bodies and deputy akims of regions, heads of public organizations and the "Nur Otan" party, deputies of the Senate of the Parliament, representatives of the Presidential Administration, state and local executive bodies, and public organizations.
During the gathering, the Head of State, together with pupils of the "Zhas Sarbaz" movement, laid a time capsule "Ұлы дала Жас сарбазы-2050" (Young Warrior of the Great Steppe - 2050).
The annually held republican festival of patriotic songs "Zhas Sarbaz" plays a special role in shaping the image of a young patriot. Last year, more than 3000 students from all regions of the country participated in the qualifying stages of the festival, and 356 young performers participated in the final of the festival, which was held in Astana.
Since 2017, a military-patriotic children's recreation camp has been organized during the summer holidays for the children of servicemen. Over three years, more than 1000 children from remote garrisons have rested in the camp, where events on patriotic education were held with them.
Various military-patriotic actions, competitions, quizzes, military-field games, and militarized relays are held on a traditional basis.
Lessons of courage are held annually in educational institutions. This year, within the framework of the Defender of the Fatherland Day, 3600 lessons of courage were held, covering more than 50,000 students, for which more than 6000 servicemen and veterans of the Armed Forces were involved.
Over the past two years, the comprehensive information and outreach group of the Ministry of Defense has visited all regions of the country, covering a total of more than 120,000 pre-conscription youth, servicemen, and their families.
